For the third time in a week, Nigeria’s national power grid collapsed on Saturday, October 19, 2024, plunging large parts of the country into darkness. The latest outage occurred around 8:16 AM, with power generation dropping from 3,968 megawatts at 7:00 AM to just 47 megawatts by 9:00 AM.

Checks confirmed that power allocation to distribution companies stood at 0.00MW during the collapse. The grid had previously failed twice earlier in the week—once on Monday and again on Tuesday during restoration efforts.

“The exact cause of the collapse is still unclear,” said a source from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), which could not be reached for further comments at the time of the report.

Efforts are ongoing to restore the grid, and updates are expected from the authorities soon.
