Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, on Wednesday, locked out staff of the assembly for failing to resume work within the official hours, signaling his administration’s stance against indiscipline.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the attitude of the staff toward their duties, Jatau warned that he would not tolerate lateness or a lackadaisical approach to office work. “Any organization that is not disciplined will not move forward, so staff must discipline themselves, or we will discipline them,” he emphasized while addressing journalists after personally inspecting staff attendance and punctuality.
Jatau, who arrived at the assembly office by 8:30 am, noted that the 7th Assembly, under his leadership, would not permit any attempt to undermine the effective functioning of the legislative institution. He further stated, “His Excellency is doing well and making efforts to improve the welfare of workers, and the assembly under my watch will continue to prioritize the welfare of staff. However, I will not condone indiscipline.”
He disclosed that he had directed the Staff Officer to take disciplinary actions against any employee who is not punctual or fails to perform their duties as required.
The Speaker reassured his commitment to improving the welfare of the assembly staff but insisted that they must adhere to their responsibilities.
