Alice Webb, a 34-year-old mother of five, has become the first person in the UK to die following a non-surgical Brazilian butt lift (BBL) procedure. She passed away late Monday at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital after falling seriously ill.
Two individuals have since been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter in connection with her death.
Unlike the traditional BBL, which involves fat transfer surgery, the ‘liquid’ BBL uses injectable dermal fillers like hyaluronic acid. Despite its non-invasive nature, this cosmetic procedure has been linked to complications. Save Face, a national register of accredited practitioners offering non-surgical treatments, confirmed that this was “the first case of a death caused by a non-surgical BBL in the UK.”
Webb, an aesthetic practitioner from Gloucestershire, was remembered for her dedication to her clients and family. A GoFundMe campaign in her honor described her as “beautiful inside and out, with the biggest heart.” The statement continued, “Alice joined the beauty & aesthetics industry two years ago and she has been smashing it, doing amazing… She was just a pure natural and never needed help but always wanted to be the best at her job.”
Her partner, Dane Knight, expressed his grief on Facebook, saying, “I want to say a heartfelt thank you to all family and friends that were here for us at our time of need, including all the kind messages sent to my children and myself.” He added, “My children are extremely vulnerable! Alice left us Monday at 11:30pm. Please, please have these five girls’ feelings at heart here.”
Gloucestershire Police were called by the ambulance service at 11:35 pm on Monday, reporting that a woman had become unwell following a suspected cosmetic procedure. A police spokesperson stated, “Two people have been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter following the death of a woman in her 30s in Gloucester… An investigation, led by the Major Crime Investigation Team, is ongoing.”
The two arrested individuals have since been released on police bail.
