Nigeria’s leading telecommunications provider, MTN, has publicly apologized to its customers following a significant backlash over a sudden 200% hike in the price of its popular 15GB data bundle. The price increase has raised the cost of this weekly data plan from N2,000 to N6,000, leaving many subscribers stunned and frustrated.

The announcement of the price change sparked outrage on social media, with numerous customers expressing their dissatisfaction on Wednesday. In response, MTN took to social media on Thursday to acknowledge the concerns of its users. The company adopted an informal tone in its message, recognizing the disappointment felt by customers who had become accustomed to more affordable data rates.

In their statement, MTN wrote, “To our 15GB digital bundle lovers. You dey vex. We know. We know how upsetting it must have been to suddenly wake up to a 200% increase on your favourite digital bundle.” They further admitted that the price hike was a mistake and urged customers to move past their anger, emphasizing their commitment to customer satisfaction.
