Rosemary Oromoni, the mother of Sylvester Oromoni, the late Dowen College student whose death in 2021 stirred national outcry, has passed away from heart failure.

A family source revealed that she succumbed to a blood pressure-related condition in late November. Her death marks another devastating blow for the Oromoni family, who endured a prolonged legal and emotional battle after Sylvester’s controversial death.

Sylvester, a 12-year-old, died on November 30, 2021. His parents alleged he was bullied and poisoned by fellow students at the Lagos-based school. While initial findings pointed to chemical intoxication, a subsequent autopsy determined that natural causes stemming from an ankle injury were responsible.

In April 2024, a special court cleared Dowen College, its staff, and five accused teenage boys of any wrongdoing. The coroner attributed Sylvester’s death to parental and medical negligence.
