A heated dispute has erupted between Omowunmi, the widow of late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, and his father, Joseph Aloba, over the paternity of Mohbad’s son.

The controversy stems from disagreements regarding the choice of a medical facility to conduct a Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) test to confirm the child’s paternity. The test was ordered by a Magistrate Court in Ikorodu, Lagos, following a suit filed by Joseph Aloba. The court had directed both parties to agree on a neutral laboratory to conduct the test under supervision.

Omowunmi, through her legal team, alleged that Joseph Aloba has been uncooperative. In a letter dated January 9, 2025, and signed by her lawyer, Kabir Akingbolu, Omowunmi disclosed that she rejected the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, proposed by Mohbad’s father, citing concerns raised in court. Similarly, Aloba declined her suggestion of Lagoon Hospitals. To resolve the stalemate, she suggested two alternatives—Eko Hospital and Reddington Hospitals—but claimed Aloba failed to respond to this proposal.

Omowunmi also accused her late husband’s father of using social media to malign her and defame her son, portraying the child as illegitimate. “It is very laughable that he would avoid the DNA test yet go on social media to label Master Liam as a bastard,” her letter stated.

In response, Mohbad’s father, through his lawyer, Emmanuel Oroko, denied these allegations and clarified that the delays were due to a lack of response from the proposed medical facilities. Oroko also announced his chambers would no longer represent Joseph Aloba in the matter.

The ongoing legal tussle has sparked public interest, with Omowunmi threatening to proceed with the DNA test independently if her late husband’s father continues to delay the process.

The court’s intervention remains critical as both parties navigate the dispute
