Omowunmi Aloba, widow of the late Nigerian singer and rapper Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has agreed to a DNA test to establish the paternity of her son, Liam. This follows a suit filed by Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, seeking confirmation of his grandson’s lineage through DNA testing.

In a legal filing, Joseph Aloba’s representatives requested the court’s intervention, citing previous unsuccessful attempts to serve Omowunmi with legal documents. The Ikorodu Magistrate’s Court, presiding over the case, initially urged both parties to resolve the matter amicably through closed-door discussions, but negotiations failed.

On Sunday, Monisola Odumosu, representing the Aloba family’s legal team, confirmed Omowunmi’s decision to proceed with the DNA test, noting that terms of settlement were prepared and filed. “Emmanuel Oroko informed the court that both parties had settled outside the court,” Odumosu stated. “The court adopted the terms of settlement as the judgment of the court.”

The agreed terms specify that the DNA test will be conducted at two recognized medical facilities in Lagos State or another approved hospital outside the state. The agreement also includes provisions for Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, to bear the associated costs. “The applicant, Mr. Joseph Aloba, agreed to bear the costs, including testing fees, sample collection, and administrative expenses,” Odumosu added.

To ensure transparency, the court appointed officers to oversee the test. Additionally, both parties were ordered to cover their own legal costs, with the exception of the DNA testing fees, which will be handled by the applicant.

Mohbad, a former signee of Marlian Music, passed away at 27, prompting public outcry and investigations. His untimely death led to a police probe and subsequent arrests. His body was exhumed for autopsy, but the findings remain undisclosed, fueling further controversy.

The legal proceedings and calls for justice have drawn international attention, with observers expressing concerns about delays and the fairness of the inquest. These concerns were heightened during the cross-examination of Mohbad’s widow, where alleged disruptions limited the information gathered.

As the case proceeds, both parties await the court’s final decision on the DNA results, anticipated to bring closure to questions surrounding the paternity of Mohbad’s son.
