A year after the death of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, Nigerians are still demanding justice. The street hip-hop artist passed away under controversial circumstances on September 12, 2023, in Lagos.
Following his death, numerous protests erupted across the country. Recently, a peaceful demonstration led by actor Yomi Fabiyi, named ‘Justice for Mohbad,’ took place on August 11 in front of the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ikorodu.
Mohbad’s body was exhumed for an autopsy shortly after his death, but the results have yet to be disclosed by the Nigerian Police. At the demonstration, Mohbad’s mother, Abosede Aloba, urged fans to stop the demonstrations and instead pray for her late son. She emphasized, “Whatever Mohbad’s father says is final. We don’t support any celebration of our son’s remembrance.”
On the anniversary of his death, Nigerians flooded social media with tributes and calls for justice, expressing frustration over the lack of closure. Users like @IGTrippy, @Tommie_Ayo, and @ManLikeIcey expressed their grief, remembering Mohbad’s impact on the music industry and lamenting the absence of justice.
While Mohbad’s legacy continues to inspire, many remain hopeful that justice will eventually be served.
