The Minister of Digital Economy in Nigeria, Bosun Tijani, has denied allegations that the government instructed telecom companies to interfere with network services amid the ongoing nationwide protests.
Reports from users of MTN, Airtel, and other networks indicated slow internet speeds, sparking speculation that the government had ordered telecom operators to disrupt services to hinder the protests.
However, during an interview on Channels TV, Tijani clarified, “There’s no instruction to tamper with (phone) networks.”
The minister also addressed the looting of the National Communication Commission (NCC) building in Kano State on Thursday, condemning the act and highlighting its detrimental impact on the federal government’s efforts to promote youth employment through technology.
Tijani stated, “The looting of the NCC building is a setback to our efforts in encouraging youth employment through technology.”
The nationwide protests continue as citizens express their grievances, with the government denying any interference with network connectivity.
