The Minister of Foreign Affairs in Nigeria. Yusuf Tuggar, has formally notified the Head of Service of the Federation, Folasade Yemi-Esan, about ongoing allegations of sexual harassment involving the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Ibrahim Lamuwa.

The allegations were raised by a married female employee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through her legal representative, Femi Falana, SAN. According to a letter dated May 27, 2024, the woman reported that Ambassador Lamuwa had made persistent sexual advances towards her.

In his letter to Yemi-Esan, Minister Tuggar emphasized the seriousness of the allegations and the need for an immediate and thorough investigation. “I am compelled to write to inform you of a formal complaint against the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ibrahim Adamu Lamuwa, on allegations of sexual harassment,” Tuggar stated. He continued, “Bearing in mind the gravity of the matter, I feel it necessary to draw your attention to it and ask that you handle it accordingly.”

Tuggar’s correspondence included an attachment of the complaint as received via email, ensuring Yemi-Esan that he would fully cooperate with the investigation. He stressed the importance of addressing the matter urgently to uphold the integrity of the Ministry and protect the welfare of its employees.
