
Matija Sarkic, the 26-year-old goalkeeper for Millwall and the Montenegro national team, has tragically passed away, the club announced today.
Sarkic, who joined Millwall from Wolverhampton Wanderers in August last year, made 33 appearances for the Lions.
In a heartfelt statement, Millwall expressed their sorrow: “The club is completely devastated to announce the death of Matija Sarkic. A Montenegro international, Matija proudly represented his country on numerous occasions. Everyone at the club sends their love and condolences to Matija’s family and friends at this immensely sad time.”
Sarkic’s last match was on June 5 against Belgium in a friendly. He earned eight caps for Montenegro throughout his career and previously played for Aston Villa, Birmingham City, Stoke City, and Wigan.
