Meta, the parent company of Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, and Threads, is set to begin another round of layoffs next week, affecting employees in Africa, Europe, and Asia.

According to an internal memo seen by Reuters, employees impacted by the cuts will start receiving notifications from Monday at 5 a.m. local time in most affected countries, including the United States. The memo was written by Meta’s Head of People, Janelle Gale.

However, workers in Germany, France, Italy, and the Netherlands will be spared from the layoffs due to their stringent labor laws. Between February 11 and February 18, notifications will be sent to affected employees in more than a dozen countries across the three continents.

Meta had previously announced plans to cut approximately 5% of its lowest-performing employees, though some positions will be refilled.

Unlike previous layoffs, Meta’s offices will remain open on Monday, and the company will not issue further public updates on the matter, according to Gale.

Meanwhile, in a separate memo, Peng Fan, Meta’s Vice President of Engineering for Monetization, urged employees to assist in accelerating hiring efforts for machine learning engineers and other key positions. The recruitment drive will run from February 11 to March 13.

“Thank you for your continued support in helping us achieve our hiring goals and align with our 2025 priorities,” Fan stated.

Meta’s latest job cuts come as part of the company’s ongoing restructuring efforts to optimize operations and focus on its long-term growth strategy.
