Former Florida Senator Marco Rubio has been officially sworn in as the United States Secretary of State.
The swearing-in ceremony, held on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, was conducted by Vice President James Vance.
Rubio’s confirmation by the US Senate on Monday marked his entry as the first permanent member of President Donald Trump’s second-term cabinet. The Senate approved his nomination with a unanimous 99-0 vote.
As Secretary of State, Rubio is expected to play a key role in shaping US foreign policy, particularly regarding China and Latin America. During his confirmation hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee last week, he aligned himself with Trump’s “America First” foreign policy approach, describing it as a “commonsense realization.”
Rubio, a seasoned politician, previously served as Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives from 2006 to 2008. His extensive experience in legislative affairs is anticipated to influence his approach as the nation’s top diplomat.
