Manchester United have taken the first steps toward signing Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres, making contact through intermediaries to explore the framework of a potential deal. The 27-year-old forward is on United’s radar as the club looks to strengthen its attacking options.

Gyökeres, who enjoyed a phenomenal season with 54 goals in 52 appearances including a standout hat-trick against Manchester City in the Champions League is reportedly open to a move this summer. Despite having a release clause of approximately £84 million (€100 million), there is a gentleman’s agreement allowing him to leave for bids over £58 million (€70 million).

United are actively seeking a new No. 9, regardless of Rasmus Højlund’s future. Although the Danish striker has expressed a desire to stay and fight for his place, the club remains keen on bolstering their forward line. This comes amid continued interest in other forwards, including Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.

Alongside their recruitment efforts, United are also planning a clear-out. The club is prepared to listen to offers for several attacking players, including Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, and Antony. Permanent transfers are preferred, though loan deals remain a possibility. While interest in these players has been high, no formal offers have been received yet.
