The Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Edo, Olumide Akpata, has been effectively knocked out of the race, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) results uploaded on the iRev portal.

Akpata lost his polling unit to his rival from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Asue Ighodalo. At Polling Unit 11, Ward 6, Oredo Local Government Area, Ighodalo secured 41 votes while Akpata trailed with 32 votes.

Currently, over 89.93% of the total results have been uploaded, covering 3,895 out of 4,519 polling units in the state. As per the trends, the All Progressives Congress (APC) is leading in Edo North, while the PDP is maintaining a strong lead in Edo South.

In Etsako West Local Government Area, Igbira Camp Booth, the APC garnered 90 votes, LP secured 13, and PDP received 85 votes. In Owan West, APC got 90 votes, LP 13, and PDP 75 votes. At Uhunmwonde Uvbenisi Primary School, APC scored 83 votes, LP 06, and PDP 47 votes.

Additionally, APC Senator Monday Okpebholo won his polling unit, Uwessan 1, Esan Central Local Government Area, with a commanding 102 votes, beating Akpata, Ighodalo, and 14 other candidates.

This election is still unfolding, but it appears the race is largely between the APC and PDP, with the Labour Party facing significant setbacks in its quest for governorship.
