Tears flowed as Nigeria bid farewell to the late Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, who was laid to rest at the National Cemetery in Abuja on Friday, November 15.
The solemn ceremony, which marked the conclusion of two days of funeral rites, commenced earlier in Lagos and culminated with a funeral service at the National Christian Centre in Abuja.
Lagbaja’s casket, adorned with Nigeria’s green and white colors, arrived at the cemetery around 3:00 pm in a white funeral wagon. The burial, attended by numerous dignitaries, concluded with the interment at exactly 4:41 pm.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Acting Chief of Army Staff Lt. General Olufemi Oluyede, Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa, and Minister of Defence Abubakar Badaru were among the prominent figures who paid their last respects.
In his tribute, President Tinubu described Lagbaja as a “patriot who served Nigeria selflessly,” while other officials highlighted his outstanding contributions to the military and the nation.
The loss of Lt. General Lagbaja leaves a profound void, as tributes continue to pour in for the officer who dedicated his life to the service of his country.
