Lagos State Police Command operatives have uncovered an illegal baby factory in Ijegun, arresting three suspects and rescuing 11 victims, including seven women and four children. Police spokesperson CSP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the April 5 operation followed credible intelligence about the illicit facility allegedly operated by 35-year-old Mariam Vincent and two accomplices.
The rescued victims – ranging from a 2-year-old girl to women in their mid-20s – were reportedly abducted from various locations across Lagos and held against their will. During interrogation, suspects confessed to running the baby-making operation, where victims were allegedly forced to bear children for sale. All rescued persons are currently receiving medical and psychosocial support while police expand investigations to identify potential buyers and other accomplices.
The breakthrough forms part of a broader security crackdown that saw police arrest 39 suspects for various crimes and recover multiple firearms in recent weeks. In a related development, officers successfully rescued two kidnapping victims in Ikorodu after a 72-hour operation, demonstrating the command’s intensified efforts to combat organized crime across Lagos. Authorities have vowed to prosecute the baby factory operators under Nigeria’s stringent anti-human trafficking laws.
