The Lagos State Government initiated a demolition exercise at the New Mandela Plaza within the Trade Fair Complex in Lagos.
At least 19 buildings were pulled down as part of a broader crackdown on illegal developments, structures lacking statutory approvals, defective constructions, and buildings erected on road setbacks and drainage areas.
The demolition operation was carried out by officials from several state agencies, including the Lagos State Urban Development Ministry, Ministry of Physical Planning, Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency (LASURA), Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA), and the Office of Infrastructure. The exercise also saw the involvement of members of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Security personnel were deployed to the site to assist the government officials in executing the demolition safely and effectively.
This move underscores Lagos State’s commitment to enforcing urban planning regulations, improving infrastructure, and safeguarding public safety by eliminating unauthorized and hazardous structures.
The state government has been proactive in addressing illegal constructions that compromise urban development plans and pose risks to residents. The demolition at New Mandela Plaza aligns with ongoing efforts to ensure orderly urban growth and compliance with building codes in Lagos.
