The Organised Labour in Nigeria has taken a significant step by temporarily suspending the nationwide strike for five days to allow for continuous discussions with the tripartite committee regarding the new national minimum wage.

This decision comes after a series of constructive engagements between Labour leaders and government officials.

A source close to the Labour leaders revealed to newsmen that the decision to suspend the strike was made to create a conducive environment for uninterrupted negotiations with the tripartite committee.

This move demonstrates a commitment to finding a mutually agreeable solution to the ongoing wage discussions.

Following a successful meeting with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and other government representatives, it was reported by newsmen that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had expressed a strong commitment to a new minimum wage exceeding N60,000.

The parties involved have also agreed that the Tripartite Committee will convene daily over the next week to work towards a consensus on the National Minimum Wage.

In a pivotal development, Labour announced the suspension of the strike during a meeting with the Federal Government Tripartite Committee, which was scheduled for 10 am today. This decision signals a positive shift towards constructive dialogue and a collaborative approach to resolving the wage issue.

In response to the suspension, all government and private offices are expected to resume normal operations, ensuring the continuity of essential services and functions. This temporary halt in strike action reflects a commitment to finding a fair and sustainable solution that benefits all stakeholders involved in the wage negotiations.
