The Organised Labour has officially announced that there will be no strike today, Tuesday, June 11, 2024 regarding the ongoing minimum wage negotiation with the Federal Government of Nigeria.

This decision comes after the suspension of the previous strike action for one week to engage in discussions with the government to determine the new minimum wage, with the suspension period ending today.

At the International Labour Conference in Geneva, Switzerland, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Joe Ajaero, reiterated the stance that there would be no strike on Tuesday. Ajaero emphasized that the Labour movement is awaiting President Bola Tinubu’s decision before taking further action.

In his statement, Ajaero highlighted the importance of the President’s decision, stating, “We cannot declare a strike now because the figures are with the President. We will wait for the President’s decision.” He also mentioned the varying proposals of N62,000 from the government and employers, and N250,000 from Labour, emphasizing the need for a fair resolution.

Regarding the concerns raised by the 36 states’ governors about the proposed N60,000 minimum wage, Ajaero addressed the issue, indicating that discussions will continue once the President’s decision is known. The Labour leader expressed optimism that the President would make a decision that considers the best interests of the workers.
