The Pacific island nation of Kiribati has once again made history as the first country to enter the New Year, celebrating the arrival of 2025 with grand festivities on Kiritimati (Christmas) Island.

The island, located 14 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), marked the transition into the New Year with fireworks, music, and community celebrations that highlighted the region’s unique cultural heritage.

Shortly after, New Zealand followed as one of the first major nations to usher in 2025. Cities like Auckland and Wellington lit up the skies with breathtaking fireworks displays, with Auckland’s iconic Sky Tower taking center stage.

New Zealanders celebrated 13 hours ahead of London and 18 hours ahead of New York’s Times Square ball drop, with events characterized by joyful gatherings, toasts, and festive activities.

The celebrations in Kiribati and New Zealand set the tone for global New Year’s festivities, as nations worldwide prepare to welcome 2025 with their own unique traditions and displays.
