Kenyan long-distance runner Edwin Koech has emerged as the winner of the 2025 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, clinching the men’s title in the prestigious race held on Saturday, February 15, 2025.

Koech, 41, finished the marathon with an impressive time of 2 hours, 14 minutes, and 18 seconds, securing the $50,000 first-place prize. His victory marks his second title in three years, having previously won the marathon in 2023.

The 2025 edition of the Lagos City Marathon witnessed over 37,000 participants in both the 10km and 42km races, drawing elite runners from across the world.

In the women’s category, Guta Meseret Hirpa of Ethiopia crossed the finish line first, further cementing East Africa’s dominance in long-distance running.

The annual marathon, sponsored by Access Bank, continues to be one of Africa’s premier road races, attracting top international and local athletes.
