Ace music executive and CEO of Kennis Music, Kenny Ogungbe, has debunked rumors suggesting that he was responsible for the split of the iconic Nigerian music group, Plantashun Boiz.

Speaking on a recent episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, Ogungbe, popularly known as Baba Keke, clarified that the group had already disbanded before 2Face approached him for a record deal.

He said, “People have been saying I’m the one responsible for the breakup of Plantashun Boiz. That’s not true. 2Face came to me himself after the group had broken up, saying he wanted to sign with Kennis Music. It was Eedris Abdulkareem who encouraged me to sign him, and I did.”

Plantashun Boiz, comprising 2Face, Blackface, and Faze, split in 2004 after releasing their sophomore album Sold Out. The trio briefly reunited in 2007 for their third album, Plan B, before parting ways again.

Ogungbe’s comments shed light on longstanding speculations surrounding the group’s breakup, which remains one of the most talked-about moments in Nigeria’s music history.
