Nigerian footballer Kayode Olanrewaju has responded to recent rumours questioning the paternity of his children, following media reports suggesting he is not the biological father of the three children he shares with his estranged wife, Dora Ezinne.
In a statement released by his legal team, Alexime Law Associates, on Monday, June 17, 2024 in Lagos, Nigeria, the allegations were strongly refuted as baseless and damaging. The legal team highlighted the potential emotional and reputational harm caused by these accusations, describing them as a targeted attempt to malign Kayode’s character and disrupt his family life.
According to the statement, Kayode’s attorneys had already issued a comprehensive response on May 26, 2024, demanding that media platforms reveal their sources. The statement argued that the rumours might have been orchestrated by Dora to divert attention from her own alleged misconduct.
The legal team specifically addressed claims made by Dr. Ruth Emosiluamhe Agbukor, who tweeted that DNA test results indicated Kayode was not the biological father of his children with Dora. This tweet, which reached millions and was amplified across social media, has been described as false and defamatory.
Kayode’s legal representatives demanded that Dr. Agbukor disclose her source, retract her statements, and delete the tweet. They warned of potential legal action for libel and charges under the Cybercrime (Prohibition and Prevention) Act if she failed to comply.
This controversy is part of a broader legal conflict between Kayode and Dora, involving serious allegations of forgery, theft of valuable assets, infidelity, and financial misconduct. Kayode’s legal team accused Dora of absconding with their children to an undisclosed location and attempting to leave the country with illegally obtained passports—a plan reportedly thwarted by the Directorate of State Security Service (DSS) in April.
Kayode’s attorneys asserted that issuing a public disclaimer regarding the DNA report would unjustly imply his involvement in spreading the rumour. Instead, they are focused on identifying the true sources of the allegation to clear Kayode’s name and restore his reputation.
“We are committed to uncovering the source of this story as part of our broader strategy to shift focus away from the substantive issues of fraud and misconduct by Dora,” the statement concluded.
