Senator Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila, representing Kano South Senatorial district, has confirmed his defection from the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP). In a statement on his Facebook page, Sumaila cited his commitment to the welfare of his constituents as the reason for his decision.

The senator emphasized his determination to advance the lives of his people, ensuring their needs are met and their future is secured. He stated, “All politics is local, and my primary concern has always been, and remains, the welfare of my immediate constituency.”

While details of his new political alignment are yet to be made public, Sumaila’s defection marks a significant development in Kano’s political landscape. The move follows his recent suspension by the NNPP, which he rejected, claiming he was not part of the faction that announced the sanction.

Sumaila’s decision is likely to have implications for future electoral dynamics in the region, given the frequent shifts in allegiance that often signal deeper undercurrents within party structures. As a prominent figure in Kano politics, his new affiliation could potentially influence the balance of power in the state’s political landscape.
