
Tragedy struck the Kano Pillars FC U-19 team on Tuesday when their bus crashed while en route to the New Jos Stadium for their Matchday 5 fixture against Plateau United U-19 in the inaugural U-19 Youth League.
According to the team’s media directorate, multiple players and the driver sustained injuries in the accident and have been rushed to the hospital for medical attention. Thankfully, no fatalities have been reported.
The team was traveling to Jos for the highly anticipated match when the accident occurred. Details of the crash are still emerging, but eyewitnesses report that the bus lost control and veered off the road.
The Kano Pillars FC management expressed concern and well-wishes for the injured players. “We extend our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to everyone affected,” said the management.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) also released a statement, wishing the injured players a speedy recovery. “We are deeply saddened by the news and are closely monitoring the situation. Our thoughts are with the players, coaching staff, and families affected,” said NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi.
The match against Plateau United U-19 has been postponed indefinitely as the league authorities await further updates on the players’ condition.
The cause of the accident is currently under investigation. Authorities are working to determine the factors that contributed to the crash.
