Vice President of the United States of America, Kamala Harris formally conceded the election to President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday afternoon, reaching out by phone to congratulate him after his decisive victory was confirmed.

Despite acknowledging her defeat, Harris took the opportunity to emphasize the need for unity and a peaceful transition, offering a pointed reminder to the newly elected president.

“She discussed the importance of a peaceful transfer of power and being a president for all Americans,” a senior aide to Harris shared, highlighting the tone of her conversation with Trump.

Trump’s team confirmed the exchange, noting the president-elect’s acknowledgment of Harris’ “professionalism” and “tenacity.” In a statement, Trump’s communications director Steven Cheung said, “President Donald J. Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris spoke by phone earlier today where she congratulated him on his historic victory. President Trump acknowledged Vice President Harris on her strength, professionalism, and tenacity throughout the campaign, and both leaders agreed on the importance of unifying the country.”

Harris is expected to make a public concession speech later this afternoon at Howard University, her alma mater, where she will address her supporters and outline her vision for a unified path forward.

The election outcome brings an end to a fiercely contested race and marks a new chapter in American leadership.
