Popular Fuji musician, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, better known as K1 De Ultimate, has stirred reactions on social media following his refusal to apologize for a controversial remark about Muslim clerics.

The controversy began after a viral video surfaced ahead of the 8-day Fidau prayer for his late mother. In the clip, K1 was heard in a conversation using the phrase “G’anu si” in reference to clerics attending social gatherings. Many interpreted this as implying that Islamic scholars attend such events uninvited, primarily for financial gains.

During the prayer event held on Friday, January 24, renowned cleric Sheikh Faruq Onikijipa publicly urged K1 to apologize, but the musician stood his ground, insisting he had done nothing wrong.

“To admit guilt means saying, ‘Okay, don’t be angry.’ But there’s no reason for that because I have done nothing wrong,” K1 stated. “If you admit guilt, you are saying the accusations are true, which they are not.”

His refusal has since divided public opinion, particularly within the Muslim community. While some critics accused him of disrespecting religious leaders, others defended his remarks, arguing that some clerics frequently attend social events without invitations.

The debate continues to generate buzz online, with many Nigerians weighing in on the issue, reflecting broader conversations about the role of religious figures in public and private ceremonies.
