Nigerian journalist Francess Olisa Ogbonnaya has accused UK-based businesswoman Sandra Duru, also known as Prof Mgbeke, of attempting to recruit her in a plot to defame Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. The allegations add a new dimension to the ongoing feud involving Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, a dispute that has already dominated national headlines with claims of sexual harassment, defamation, and political intrigue.

Ogbonnaya, in a widely circulated video, claimed Duru approached her to record a scripted voiceover containing defamatory statements against the Kogi Central senator. “She wanted me to disrupt and destroy Natasha at the TV station she wanted me to go to on her behalf, but not be neutral,” Ogbonnaya said, explaining that she refused the offer because of her journalistic integrity and political ambitions.

According to Ogbonnaya, Duru provided her with audio recordings and a script that alleged Senator Natasha was plotting to “bring down the Yoruba government.” Ogbonnaya dismissed the accusation as illogical, arguing it made little sense for a Kogi minority senator to pursue such a goal.

The journalist also addressed recent claims about sexual harassment, stating that Duru misrepresented Natasha’s position. “Sandra lied about it. In the audios she sent to me, Senator Natasha never mentioned anything about there being no sexual harassment,” Ogbonnaya said, adding that Natasha described situations that could be interpreted as harassment.

Ogbonnaya further denied that Natasha claimed to have “bought” former minister Dr Oby Ezekwesili, clarifying that Natasha only expressed gratitude for Ezekwesili’s support in women’s issues.

On the financial aspect, Ogbonnaya admitted she was offered payment for the voiceover but said she refused to include defamatory content, leading Duru to reject her work and seek another voice. Ogbonnaya also accused Duru of blackmailing other high-profile politicians, including former governors.

The controversy unfolds against the backdrop of an ongoing legal and political battle between Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Akpabio, which began with allegations of sexual harassment and has since escalated into lawsuits and public protests. Ogbonnaya concluded by urging authorities to investigate, stating she has evidence and is prepared to release further details if necessary.
