Former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan and Senate President Godswill Akpabio led a host of dignitaries to the final farewell ceremony for the late First Lady of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Patience Umo Eno.
The event, held at the Governor’s Ikot Ekpene-Udo residence in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, witnessed tributes from governors, senators, and notable Nigerians across various walks of life.
In an emotional tribute, Governor Umo Eno described his late wife as his anchor and confidant, vowing never to refer to her in the past tense. “You were my anchor, the one who could tell me what was right and what was wrong. A part of me is gone with your death, but I will cherish the memories we shared forever,” he said.
He reflected on their 40-year journey together, which began in church, and expressed solace in the blessings of their children and grandchildren. “You will always be my ‘Oluwakemi,’ alive in my mind, fresh in my thoughts, and warm in my heart,” the governor added.
Speaking at the ceremony, Hajia Nana Shettima, wife of the Vice President, lauded the late First Lady’s contributions to humanity and urged her family to uphold her legacy.
The officiating minister, Rev. Simeon Afolabi of First Love Assembly, Port Harcourt, delivered a sermon titled “When Death of Loved Ones Occurs.” Drawing inspiration from 1 Thessalonians 4:15-16, he encouraged the family to honor her memory by emulating her virtues.
The ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, Abia State Governor Alex Otti, and former Akwa Ibom Governor Udom Emmanuel. Others included Minister of State for Petroleum (Gas) Ekprikpe Ekpo, Akwa Ibom’s Chief Judge Justice Ekaette Obot, and former Niger Delta Minister Obong Umana Okon Umana.
