The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed a startling discovery of over one million illegal admissions by various tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
This disclosure came from JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, during the ongoing policy meeting on 2023/2024 admissions in Abuja on Thursday.
The policy meeting, attended by heads of tertiary institutions and stakeholders, serves as a crucial platform for setting admission guidelines nationwide.
Prof. Oloyede highlighted that the Board had successfully regularized 600 of these illegally admitted students, emphasizing that many lacked the essential qualifications for their registered courses.
“Over 1 million students were admitted illegally. We managed to register about 600 of them because a significant number did not meet the basic qualifications,” Oloyede stated, underscoring the severity of the issue.
