The man whose wife, Mrs. Favour Igiebor, was seen in a viral video allegedly tearing his Nigerian passport has clarified that the incident was staged as part of a skit. In a new video shared on their family’s Instagram page, the husband explained that the torn document in the video was not his actual passport.
“What my wife tore is not a passport. We are doing a skit, this is somebody’s story that we are sharing with the world. I didn’t even know it would go viral,” he said. He further emphasized that his passport remains intact and that they would never defy Nigerian law by destroying such an important document. “We are full bonafide Nigerians, we cannot go against the law by destroying the passport of Nigeria, it is not possible,” he added.
The video had sparked widespread criticism, leading to a formal investigation by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS). The original footage showed Mrs. Igiebor allegedly destroying the passport at Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, causing an uproar online.
The man has now asked Nigerians for understanding and forgiveness, stressing that it was never their intention to cause such a stir.
