At least seven members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) were killed in an explosion, while attempting to prepare improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in a locality between Ba’anfani and Koleram in the far Lake Chad Basin of Borno State.
The explosion occurred during the assembly of the IEDs, which were likely intended for attacks in the region.
According to a security source in the Lake Chad area, the terrorists were killed instantly in the blast, which was a significant setback for the group’s operations in the area.
The Lake Chad Basin has been a hotspot for ISWAP activities, with the group frequently resorting to IEDs as part of its terror tactics.
This incident is seen as a major blow to the group’s capabilities and a testament to the ongoing efforts of security forces to combat terrorism in the region.
