Iran has extended the closure of its airspace as it braces for possible Israeli retaliation following a missile attack on Tuesday evening. All flights have been cancelled until 5 a.m. (0130 GMT) on Thursday to ensure aviation security, according to state news agency ISNA, which cited a spokesman for the aviation authority.
Initially, Iran closed the airspace over its capital, Tehran, and canceled flights until Wednesday morning after launching a barrage of missiles targeting Israel. This attack, claimed by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), was said to be in retaliation for the killings of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, Hezbollah Chief Hassan Nasrallah, and an unnamed Iranian general.
Iran reported that its missiles targeted three Israeli air bases and the headquarters of Mossad, Israel’s foreign intelligence agency. Israel has vowed to retaliate for the attack, raising tensions in the region.
The airspace closure reflects Iran’s anticipation of further escalations as the situation develops.
