The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set November 6, 2025, for the off-cycle governorship election in Anambra State. This announcement was made by INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, during a meeting with political party leaders on Thursday.

Prof. Yakubu disclosed that a formal notice for the election will be published on November 13, 2024, in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022. He urged political parties to adhere to the provided timetable for a smooth process. “The commission expects political parties to conduct primaries between March 20, 2025, and April 10, 2025,” he stated.

Yakubu further outlined the electoral schedule, noting that the candidate nomination portal will open on April 18, 2025, and close on May 12, 2025, with the final list of candidates to be published on June 9, 2025. Campaigns by political parties will officially start on June 11, 2025, and end on November 6, 2025.

“We urge parties to use this timetable to create their own schedules to ensure effective planning and avoid last-minute rush,” Yakubu added.

He also mentioned that in the coming weeks, INEC would provide more details on voter registration, transfer of voters, and the replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). The commission’s full timetable and schedule will be available on INEC’s website and social media platforms for public access.

This announcement follows recent preparations for other elections, including the upcoming Ondo State governorship election scheduled for next month.
