The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda, has denied rumors suggesting she resigned from her position.

Speaking through her Chief Press Secretary, Segun Ajiboye, Meranda dismissed the claims as false, stating that she remains firmly in office. The rebuttal comes after an unsigned circular, dated February 17, 2025, circulated widely on social media, alleging that she had stepped down.

Meranda’s leadership was further reaffirmed when 36 out of the 40 lawmakers in the House passed a vote of confidence in her, quelling speculation about her potential resignation. Tensions were high within the Assembly chambers as lawmakers voiced their support for the Speaker, chanting slogans in her favor.

The controversy comes amid reports of an alleged plot to force Meranda out of office in favor of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa. However, the pro-Meranda lawmakers have vowed that such efforts will not succeed.

Ajiboye, in a firm response to the claims, stated: “It is a lie from the pit of hell. There is no truth in the story. I am doing my work as the CPS, the Speaker is in her office as we speak, and everyone is going about their business. The Speaker has not resigned, and there are no plans for that.”

Meranda’s leadership has been under scrutiny in recent weeks, but her latest stance, backed by overwhelming support from fellow lawmakers, suggests she remains in firm control of the Lagos Assembly.
