Bauchi State Governor in Nigeria and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, Bala Mohammed, has declared his readiness to collaborate with former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 general election.
Mohammed made this statement on Thursday in Bauchi while hosting Obi at the Government House. However, he did not confirm whether this collaboration would translate into a formal political alliance between the PDP and LP. Instead, he hinted that their partnership might focus on governance, economic development, and other areas of mutual interest.
Obi arrived at the Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport around 10 a.m. and was warmly received by Bauchi Deputy Governor Mohammed Auwal Jatau, former Finance Minister Senator Nenadi Usman, and other dignitaries. He was later escorted to the Government House, where he held a closed-door meeting with Governor Mohammed.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Mohammed described Obi as a “foremost statesman” with a strong economic background, clear political vision, and deep commitment to good governance.
“As for me, I am ready to work with Peter Obi to ensure we close ranks, bring good governance to the country, and give a vibrant opposition with knowledge, vision, and sincerity,” Mohammed said.
He emphasized the need for opposition parties to unite in order to “rescue Nigeria” and address pressing national issues such as poverty and governance.
Obi, on his part, stated that his visit was part of broader consultations aimed at addressing Nigeria’s challenges, particularly hunger, poverty, education, and healthcare.
“We must invest in critical areas to pull people out of poverty and reduce criminality. The North is a critical component if we are going to get it right in this country,” Obi said.
He reiterated the importance of collaboration across party lines, stressing that national development should take precedence over political differences.
While no official alliance has been announced, the meeting signals potential cooperation between the two opposition figures ahead of the next general election.
