Andrew Wynne, a British national declared wanted by the Nigeria Police Force over allegations of plotting to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s government, has denied any wrongdoing and insists he is not on the run.
In an exclusive interview with Channels Television, Wynne stated, “I am not aware that I am a fugitive or running from the law. I have been visiting Nigeria for 25 years and have had a bookshop at the NLC offices in Abuja for seven years without any issues from security forces. I am more than happy to speak with the Nigerian authorities, whether on WhatsApp, Zoom, or in person at the Nigerian High Commission in London.”
Wynne’s Nigerian wife also spoke to Channels Television, asserting that the allegations against her husband are false and motivated by personal vendettas. She claimed, “My husband is being accused falsely because someone owing him money is trying to avoid repayment by throwing him out of the country.”
The Nigeria Police Force had earlier accused Wynne of building sleeper cells to incite violence and destabilize the government. The Force’s spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, claimed that Wynne, also known as Andrew Povich, rented spaces and established cover organizations as part of his alleged subversive activities. Both Wynne and his associate, Lucky Ehims, have reportedly fled the country and are wanted for questioning.
