Prince Ademorin Aliu Kuye, a contender for the vacant stool of Awujale of Ijebuland and a member of the House of Representatives, has insisted that he is not desperate to become the next Awujale.

He described claims that he has been presenting himself as the Awujale‑elect as baseless and malicious, and said he would never take actions that breach existing laws or the customary procedures governing the selection of the traditional ruler.

Kuye, who has practised law for 37 years, emphasised that he respects due process and will not do anything that undermines chieftaincy and customary laws in Ijebuland.

The prince reacted after some princes and princesses of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House accused him of behaving as if he had already been chosen and of commissioning a song celebrating his alleged selection, allegations he denied. He said he was unaware of any such song until others drew his attention to it, suggesting that detractors may be responsible.

Kuye explained that he was never initially interested in contesting and only completed the nomination process at his family’s urging, adding that his many years in public service reflect his respect for institutions and lawful conduct.

The government of Ogun State has also denied endorsing any candidate for the Awujale stool and clarified that no formal choice has been made as the selection process remains guided by established laws and traditional customs.
