Former President of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari has reiterated his unwavering loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC), dismissing speculations about his involvement in recent political realignments.

In a statement released yesterday by his spokesperson, Mallam Garba Shehu, Buhari made it clear that he remains committed to the ruling party and has no intentions of leaving. He emphasized that the APC provided him with the platform to serve as president for two terms, and he remains dedicated to its growth and success.

His clarification comes in the wake of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s defection from the APC to the Social Democratic Party (SDP). Before his switch, El-Rufai had visited Buhari and other prominent figures, including former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola and Citadel Global Community Church founder Pastor Tunde Bakare.

“I am an APC member, and I like to be addressed as such. I will try to popularize the party by all means,” Buhari stated, dismissing any ties to ongoing political shifts.

The former president also expressed appreciation for the APC’s support during his tenure, describing his leadership opportunity as “the highest honor” and insisting he expects nothing in return. He further stressed the importance of preserving the party’s legacy in upholding democracy and constitutional governance.

“The pains taken by the founding fathers of the party to establish a strong party to protect our constitution and democracy as a system of government are worthy sacrifices that should be cherished and nurtured,” the statement read.
