Ahead of the Ondo State Gubernatorial Election on November 16, 2024, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has prohibited the involvement of vigilante groups, including Amotekun, in the election process.

This move aims to uphold neutrality, with only federal security agencies allowed to participate in securing the electoral process.

IGP Egbetokun assured the public that the Nigeria Police Force is fully prepared to maintain peace and order across all polling units in the state. Specialized units, such as the Police Mobile Force and Counter-Terrorism Unit, will be deployed alongside aerial and waterway patrols. These security measures are intended to deter disruptions and ensure a smooth election.

The IGP issued a strict warning against political interference or acts of violence, stating that offenders would face legal consequences. This strategy is aligned with the Electoral Act 2022 to promote a fair and transparent election.
