Nigerian singer May D has stirred conversations after claiming that he was once bigger than Wizkid and Davido, two of the country’s most prominent music stars. Speaking on The Honest Bunch podcast, May D reminisced about a time when he, Wizkid, and Davido were the leading trio in Nigeria’s music industry.

“Then, it was Wizkid, Davido, and I,” May D stated. “I was even like bigger. Wetin be ‘Holla at Your Boy’ compared to ‘Soundtrack’?”

May D rose to fame in 2011 after signing with Square Records, the record label owned by P-Square. His breakout single Soundtrack cemented his place as a promising act in the industry. However, his career trajectory shifted after his fallout with the label in 2012.

The singer has previously suggested that his departure from Square Records significantly impacted his career. In his words, if not for the fallout, Wizkid would not have reached the level he did compared to him.

While Wizkid and Davido have gone on to achieve global stardom, with multiple awards and chart-topping hits to their names, May D has struggled to maintain the same momentum in the industry. Despite this, he remains a respected figure in Nigerian music history, with fans remembering his contributions fondly.

His remarks have sparked debates online, with fans and critics reflecting on the singer’s early potential and the dynamics of the music industry.
