In a bold move, the reinstated deputy Governor of Edo State, Nigeria Philip Shaibu, has declared his intention to remain in office until the upcoming governorship election on November 11. Following a ruling by the Abuja Federal High Court affirming his position, Shaibu emphasized his determination to resume his duties today despite the ongoing tensions with Governor Godwin Obaseki.

Shaibu expressed his commitment to upholding the law and the mandate given to him by the people of Edo State. He highlighted the issue of unpaid dues, accusing Governor Obaseki of neglecting to compensate him for the past year, despite his elected status as the deputy governor. In his own words, Shaibu stated, “I’m elected deputy governor of this state and the court has reaffirmed it. I will be deputy governor till November eleven, even when the governor has not paid. He has not paid for the last one year.”

Maintaining a stance of peaceful resolution, Shaibu emphasized the importance of respecting the office of the deputy governor and asserted his readiness to carry out his responsibilities diligently.

He conveyed his willingness to engage with Governor Obaseki but affirmed his dedication to fulfilling his duties regardless of the circumstances. Shaibu’s unwavering determination sets the stage for a potentially contentious chapter in Edo State’s political landscape as the power struggle between the governor and the deputy governor unfolds.
