Pope Francis, 88, has reportedly expressed deep concerns about his health, telling close aides that he “might not make it this time” as he battles a severe respiratory infection.

The Pontiff is currently receiving intensive treatment at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital after being admitted on February 14 due to complications from double-lung pneumonia. Prior to hospitalization, he had struggled with bronchitis for a week and was initially reluctant to seek medical care. However, doctors warned that remaining at the Vatican could pose a life-threatening risk, prompting his admission.

While the Vatican has assured the public that his condition remains stable, insiders reveal that the Pope is in significant pain and fully dependent on medical intervention. Reports indicate that he is undergoing rigorous antibiotic treatment for a polymicrobial respiratory infection, compounded by a history of lung complications.

Before his hospitalization, Pope Francis took strategic steps to shape the Church’s future, including extending the term of Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re as dean of the College of Cardinals. This move ensures his influence over the next papal election, should the need arise.

Since his election in 2013, Pope Francis has been a transformative leader, advocating for a more inclusive and compassionate Church. His progressive stance has earned both praise and criticism within the Catholic community.

As he continues to battle his illness, prayers and well-wishes have poured in from around the world, with Catholics and global leaders expressing hope for his recovery.
