Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria, Femi Gbajabiamila, has dismissed rumors about his intention to run for Lagos State governorship, attributing such claims to efforts by detractors aiming to undermine him.

Speaking at the general assembly of the Surulere All Progressives Congress (APC) held at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Gbajabiamila affirmed his commitment to his current role, stating that it demands his full attention.

“My current job as Chief of Staff is so demanding that I don’t have time to think about governorship,” he said. Gbajabiamila added that these speculations stem from concerns over his steady political rise, which some perceive as a threat.

The former Speaker of the House of Representatives revealed that some individuals believe his trajectory—from Minority Whip to Chief of Staff—indicates he might seek to succeed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in 2027.

“Tell them it’s not yet time for governorship,” Gbajabiamila stated, emphasizing that only God knows who will be the next governor.

This comes amidst speculation linking Lagos State Speaker Mudashiru Obasa and Seyi Tinubu, the president’s son, to the gubernatorial race.

Despite the rumors, Gbajabiamila maintained that he remains focused on serving as Chief of Staff and dismissed the idea of being distracted by political ambitions.
