The Minister of Art, Culture, and Creative Economy in Nigeria, Hannatu Musawa, has addressed the controversy surrounding her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate, asserting that she did not violate any laws.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Sunday, October 6, 2024, Musawa stated, “I didn’t break the law,” while discussing her legal position on the matter.
Musawa has faced scrutiny over her NYSC certificate since her Senate confirmation hearing, during which she was unable to present evidence of her participation in the mandatory NYSC scheme. However, in April 2024, a Federal High Court in Abuja ruled in her favor, with Justice James Omotosho dismissing the case due to a lack of legal standing from the plaintiffs.
Musawa emphasized that she has fully complied with the law and completed her NYSC obligations. “The matter had been adjudicated,” she said, adding that she plans to one day provide a full account to set the record straight. For now, she expressed her commitment to focusing on her duties as minister.
The controversy surrounding her NYSC certificate continues to be a topic of public interest despite the legal resolution.
