
A helicopter crash off the coast of Akwa Ibom State has left six oil workers and two crew members feared dead. The incident occurred while the victims were working at the OML 123 oil field, specifically at the Mimbo platform and the Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel, around 11:40 AM.
According to sources, the helicopter, operated by Eastwind Aviation, ditched and nosedived into the Atlantic Ocean during its operation. “There were six personnel and two crew members onboard the helicopter. Three bodies have been recovered so far, and search and rescue operations are ongoing,” the source revealed.
This tragedy follows a series of aviation incidents in the region, raising concerns about safety protocols in the oil and gas sector. Further updates are expected as rescue efforts continue.
