A shop security guard, identified as Abdullah, 29, has been hailed as a hero after disarming a knifeman who attacked an 11-year-old girl and her 34-year-old mother in London’s Leicester Square, United Kingdom.
The incident occurred on Monday morning, with Abdullah hearing a scream before “jumping on” the attacker, holding him down, and taking the knife away.
“I just saw a kid getting stabbed, and I just tried to save her. It’s my duty to just save them,” Abdullah said, recounting the moment he intervened. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the girl will require hospital treatment, though her injuries are not life-threatening. Her mother sustained minor injuries.
A 32-year-old man, who was arrested at the scene, is not believed to have known the victims. The police have stated that there is no indication that the attack is terror-related, and they are not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident.
Detective Chief Superintendent Christina Jessah praised the bravery of Abdullah and others who helped subdue the attacker, stating, “They put themselves at risk and showed the best of London in doing so.”
The scene at Leicester Square, a bustling area with approximately 2.5 million visitors weekly, was cordoned off by the police as investigations continued. Emergency medical teams responded swiftly, treating the victims at the scene before transporting them to a major trauma center.
