Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has donated ₦30 million to the family of the late Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Ebisingha Alari, who was killed in the ongoing fight against Boko Haram insurgents in the Timbuktu Triangle.
The donation was personally presented by Governor Zulum to the widow of Lt. Col. Alari during a ceremony held in Maiduguri in February 2025. The governor expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family and all those who have lost their lives in the struggle to restore peace in Borno State.
Governor Zulum stated, “We sent a high-level state government delegation to the funeral, but I felt the need to personally extend my condolences on behalf of the government and people of the state.” He further explained that the ₦30 million was intended to help the family purchase a house, as Lt. Col. Alari did not own one.
“I want to assure you that apart from this, we will continue to offer support to you and the families of our fallen heroes who have put their lives in defense of our country,” the governor added.
The presentation was made in the presence of several high-ranking military and government officials, including the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Waidi Shuaibu; Sector 2 Commander, Major General Chidiebere Ejike; Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan; and members of the House of Representatives Engr Bukar Talba and Ahmed Jaha.
Other dignitaries in attendance included the Deputy Chief of Staff, Babagana Malumbe; various commissioners; Permanent Secretary of Government House, Mustapha Ali Busuguma; Special Adviser on Security to the Governor, Brigadier General Abdullahi Sabi Ishaq (rtd); and the Chairman of Damboa Local Government, Ali Mohammed Kauji.
Governor Zulum’s gesture highlights his administration’s commitment to honoring the sacrifices of military personnel and supporting the families of those who have died in the fight against terrorism in the Northeast region.
