Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has cancelled the civil service jobs approved by his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, citing a need for a more transparent recruitment process. The governor made this announcement during an interactive session in Port Harcourt on Friday.

According to Governor Fubara, the previous recruitment process was marred by political patronage, with 60% of the beneficiaries being over-aged and only brought in for political reasons. He emphasized that the new recruitment process will prioritize employment for the future, with a focus on hiring younger candidates who can serve for a longer period.

The governor questioned the logic of employing someone who is 52 years old as a civil servant, given the limited number of years they would have before retirement. He assured that the new recruitment process will be more transparent and merit-based.

This move is seen as a significant shift in the state’s employment policies, with many welcoming the move as a step towards a more inclusive and sustainable approach to civil service recruitment. The fresh recruitment process is expected to commence soon, with details to be announced in due course.

This development is a significant development in the state’s employment sector, and it will be interesting to see how the new recruitment process unfolds.
